The film's launch was marred from the start. Disney took the unusual step of premiering Indiana Jones 5 at the Cannes Film Festival and prematurely releasing the review embargo over a month early. This strategy backfired spectacularly, as critics responded with lukewarm (or worse) reviews. Rotten Tomatoes shows that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is currently the lowest-rated entry in the franchise by critics, hovering around a 50% score—decidedly mixed and far from the critical acclaim of previous films.
