The following morning, when she failed to appear for breakfast, her family launched a thorough search of the ship, which can carry up to 4,000 passengers. The search ended grimly when a crew member discovered her lifeless body—wrapped in a blanket, covered with life jackets, and concealed under a bed in the cabin she shared with two other teens, including her 16-year-old stepbrother.
