“Willow,” a TV adaptation of the beloved 1988 film, was produced by Lucasfilm and released on Disney+. Its reception was calamitous from the start. Critics and audiences alike found the series cringe-worthy, often comparing it unfavorably to lower-tier CW shows. Rather than focusing on traditional fantasy storytelling, “Willow” centered heavily on a teen lesbian romance, a choice that many perceived as pandering to identity politics rather than storytelling. The series suffered from dismal ratings and was eventually canceled after just one season.
