Part 3/9:
The series titled Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, helmed by Ryan Murphy, debuted to both acclaim and outrage. Critics debated whether the show exploitation of the gruesome murders or a candid exploration of the mind of a disturbed individual. Victims’ families voiced their displeasure at the portrayal, feeling that the series was disrespectful or sensationalist.
An additional point of contention emerged when Netflix labeled the series as part of the LGBTQ+ genre or tagged it with the moniker. Given that Dahmer had predominantly targeted gay men and engaged in sexual violence with male victims, viewers questioned the appropriateness of associating this true and tragic story with the LGBTQ+ category.
