The controversy is further fueled by statements from within Marvel’s leadership. Notably, Victoria Alonso, Marvel’s Executive Vice President of Physical and Post Production, has publicly expressed her opinion that the X-Men name is outdated.
Back in June 2019, Alonso made headlines with comments suggesting that the X-Men label was problematic due to its gender connotations. She said:
"I don't know where the future is going. It's funny that people call it the X-Men. There's a lot of female superheroes in that group, so I think it's outdated."
