In the promotional materials and synopses, Rey interacts with various versions of classic characters, including Luke, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan, and Yoda. The emphasis, however, is on Rey's relationship with a rookie Luke, which some interpret as a departure from the more seasoned, older Luke we see in earlier films. The crux of the criticism is whether Disney intends to present Rey as a master figure training a naive Luke—a scenario many fans find problematic, as it seemingly undermines the original story where Luke was already a Jedi Knight.
