While Esposito’s admission of researching the Star Wars lore is commendable, it also points to his limited familiarity with the franchise’s complexities. Some of his comments indicated that he had to actively seek out information about what it means to be a Moff or what the Darksaber signifies—suggesting he is still learning on the job rather than embodying a well-understood Star Wars villain.
Furthermore, Esposito’s portrayal of Gideon has been widely praised. He exudes an intimidating presence, effectively playing the role of a calculating, ruthless villain. Yet, his expectations about the character’s origins risk undermining that performance if the show’s writers follow through with some of his more speculative ideas.
