However, the landscape of Star Wars has dramatically shifted since Disney acquired Lucasfilm. Historically, the Expanded Universe (EU)—also known as Legends—maintained a detailed hierarchy of stories, with some works considered core canon and others less so. Disney’s decision to rebrand the EU as Legends was seen by many fans as a break from tradition, leading to frustration over the loss of continuity.
Since that reorganization, Disney's Star Wars has struggled with maintaining a coherent storyline. Despite their efforts under the "Lucasfilm Story Group"—created to unify and safeguard the continuity—the results have been less than convincing. Critics argue that the story group has failed at its fundamental task: keeping the canon straight.
