Nick Fury's staged death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier exemplifies this approach. It is treated with seriousness, affecting the story and characters meaningfully, and its effects linger. This deepens the viewer's investment and enhances the film's notable themes.
By contrast, The Rise of Skywalker's treatment of Chewbacca's supposed death is abrupt and inconsequential, which erodes the emotional trust built with the audience. The quick reversal diminishes the event's weight, rendering the scene manipulative rather than meaningful.
