In The Last Jedi, the casino scenes include gratuitous slapstick moments, like BB-8 spitting coins or the space horse race, which feel out of place amid the galaxy-wide crisis. These moments pull viewers out of the story, making it seem like a different film altogether. To remedy this, the scene could be toned down—shortening the sequence, reducing slapstick, and emphasizing the shady side of the planet would embed the scenes better into the film’s overall tone.
