Part 9/12:
One of the movie’s most underdeveloped elements is Finn’s character arc. He begins with the potential for internal growth—questioning his loyalty and seeking purpose beyond his past serving the First Order. Yet, throughout The Last Jedi, Finn spends most of his time reacting to events around him, with little internal reflection.
In Return of the Jedi, Luke’s internal turmoil is carefully crafted via editing—slow zoom-ins, reaction shots, and contrasting perspectives that reveal his hesitation and emotional conflict. Such techniques make Luke’s eventual decision compelling.
