Contrary to what many might assume for a director tapped to helm a Science Fiction universe like Star Wars, Leslie Headland's experience primarily lies in romantic comedies. She wrote and directed two films prior to her involvement with The Acolyte: The Bachelorette (2012) and Sleeping with Other People (2015). Both movies are labeled as romantic comedies, yet they are widely regarded by critics and audiences as being humorless and lackluster.
