Following the recognition, Lee Kuan Yew faced a series of challenging discussions with Malaysian leaders. Describing the encounter, Lee recounts, “I saw three leaders of the Malaysian Solidarity Convention in the cabinet room. It was one of the most painful meetings of my life.” The meeting was fraught with disappointment and regret, as Lee acknowledged that Singapore had let down its Malaysian allies.
