A common symbol rallying these protests is the “pyro flag” featuring a skull in a straw hat, a motif originating from the Japanese anime One Piece. Originally representing rebels fighting against oppressive regimes in the fictional world, this symbol has been adopted by Asian youth to represent their fight against corruption and inequality. In Indonesia, for instance, a truck driver underground movement used the pyro flag near national celebrations to voice his protest against oppressive economic policies, such as the zero-overloading rule that disproportionately affected drivers earning meager wages.
