In a surprising turn, protests erupted outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, where Steven Colbear (a parody of Stephen Colbert) tapes his show. Interestingly, many of the protestors had minimal, if any, familiarity with The Late Show or its predecessors like David Letterman. The protests appeared to be more symbolic or politically motivated rather than based on genuine appreciation of the show’s content. Some supporters speculate that the protests are a form of resistance against perceived political bias—particularly, Colbear's outspoken criticism of Donald Trump.
