Across the region, large youth populations—described as a "youth bulge"—are redefining the political landscape. When coupled with high unemployment levels and pervasive inequality, these demographics become fertile ground for dissent. While historically countries like Japan and Singapore capitalized on their youthful populations for economic growth, many developing nations now face the consequences of unfulfilled aspirations.
Intrinsic to these protests is a desire for genuine representation, transparency, and social justice. The young generation in Nepal, Mongolia, Indonesia, and the Philippines is telling their governments that they demand more—more accountability, more opportunity, and more respect.
