As one observer pointed out, the primary concern might only be for disabled actors themselves, who could miss opportunities due to these casting practices. For example, characters like the mayor in long-running shows, or the blind character in Daredevil, have historically been portrayed by able-bodied actors, often with little controversy at the time. Nonetheless, modern audiences and advocacy groups increasingly question whether these portrayals respect the lived experiences of disabled individuals.
