One of the most striking aspects of the immediate aftermath has been the polarized nature of reactions. On one side, progressive or "woke" circles are upset, criticizing Pope Leo for not being sufficiently progressive and allegedly lacking the woke stance they expect. On the other side, conservative voices label him a "woke Marxist," accusing him of radical leftist tendencies. This encapsulates a broader trend: the inability of different groups to agree upon what the new leader truly stands for, largely because they are operating with incomplete information and biased narratives.
