Part 6/10:
A core principle underpinning Project Castaway is ecosystem integration. The system is designed so that different organisms support each other: seaweed and sea grapes form the base, absorbing CO₂, increasing water pH, and serving as fertilizers. Seaweed fermentation, using resources like seaweed, sugar, or molasses, enriches the system and feeds fish and shellfish. Fish waste fertilizes plants, while oysters and sea cucumbers process organic waste, creating a circular, nutrient-recycling system aimed at maintaining ecological balance and food security.
