The rapid expansion of buildings into rice fields, beaches, and sacred sites has sparked deep concern. Beaches are littered with trash, traditional rice paddies are encroached upon by concrete developments, and once-peaceful villages like Canggu are now bustling with villas and commercial structures. Cultural sites and sacred temples are sometimes disrespected — depicted in photos without due reverence or proper attire, such as local temples being photographed sans respectful dress code or inappropriately.
