The Wokeification of Museums: A Critical Look at America's Cultural Institutions in 2023-2024

Introduction

Throughout 2023 and 2024, I dedicated myself to exploring museums across the United States, particularly through the lens of the Heterodox Academy's Center for Academic Pluralism. My goal was to find spaces that might offer a respite from the increasingly pervasive influence of "woke" ideology in academic and cultural environments. However, what I encountered was both surprising and concerning: museums in major cities like New York and institutions such as the Smithsonian's American History Museum in D.C. have become hotbeds of woke propaganda, emphasizing issues centered around critical race theory and America's troubling history of slavery.
