Religious liberty does not mean that personal religious beliefs can dictate or nullify laws or rights that apply to every citizen. Enforcing the idea that religious beliefs should override societal rights would amount to state-mandated religion, contrary to the core principles of the First Amendment. Most Americans agree that religious freedom protects personal practice—not the ability to impose one's beliefs on others or to influence laws that grant or restrict rights.
