This observation led him to speak with private-hire drivers, who shared their perspectives. Many drivers admitted they rarely remind passengers to wear seat belts in the back, primarily because they fear offending them or upsetting the comfort of the ride. Some drivers are even unaware that they can be fined alongside their passengers for non-compliance. In Singapore, for example, both parties face a $150 fine if passengers in the back seat are not belted, with drivers also incurring three demerit points.
