Previously earning approximately 4,000 Malaysian Ringgit, equivalent to about $1,100 Singapore dollars, Hafizi now makes roughly four times that amount working in Singapore. This income disparity is largely driven by the appreciation of the Singapore dollar, which has surged approximately 60% against the Ringgit over the past two decades. In 2022, the Singapore dollar strengthened by over 7%, reaching an average of 3.395 Malaysian Ringgit to 1 Singapore dollar, and currently stands close to 3.50.
