Over the past 16 years, Taiwan has invested heavily in Palao, providing medical, agricultural, and infrastructural assistance to strengthen its unofficial alliance. A prime example is Taiwan's medical team, backed by the Shuang Memorial Hospital, which has been stationed on Palao consistently since 2007. One local, 35-year-old diver Ry Ry, credits Taiwan's medical aid for saving his foot from a serious infection—an endorsement of Taiwan’s soft power.
