Part 6/12:
In contemporary Indonesia, political dynasties are ubiquitous. Members of influential families have maintained power across generations, shaping institutions, controlling political parties, and managing vast business empires. More than 138 of 580 elected members of the DPR (House of Representatives) have familial ties to political or business dynasties.
Major parties like PDI-P, led by Megawati Sukarnoputri—daughter of Indonesia’s founding father Sukarno—continue to promote succession within their clans. Puan Maharani, Megawati's daughter, is touted as the future leader, exemplifying a clear dynastic pathway. Similarly, families such as Yudhoyono, with former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his children, wield significant influence.
