Part 4/11:
The plant's future was abruptly halted in 1986, coinciding with the ousting of President Ferdinand Marcos and the Chernobyl disaster. The Chernobyl catastrophe, which occurred the same year, cast long shadows of suspicion and concern over nuclear safety worldwide. As a result, the Philippine government opted to mothball the Bataan plant entirely, placing it under what is essentially a state of preservation without operational use. Today, the plant remains inactive, with all control systems still analog, a testament to the technology of that era.
