The country's current energy mix heavily depends on coal, which accounts for 31%, and oil, comprising 32%. These fossil fuels contribute to the high cost of electricity and environmental pollution. Recognizing the need to diversify, the Philippines aims to transition toward more sustainable and cleaner energy sources—such as natural gas, hydro, wind, solar, biomass, and biofuels. Efforts to reduce dependence on oil and coal are central to this strategy, especially as the government emphasizes the importance of energy security and environmental sustainability.
