The Resilience of the Singapore Dollar in 2022
In 2022, the Singapore dollar emerged as one of the best-performing Asian currencies, appreciating by approximately 3% against the US dollar. This was in stark contrast to many of its regional counterparts, which declined between 3% and 4% over the same period. Analysts largely attribute this strength to the proactive measures taken by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), which engaged in four rate hikes throughout the year in an effort to combat rising inflation.
