Two Years After the Military Coup: Ongoing Violence and Displacement

It has been two years since Myanmar's military seized power in a coup, plunging the country into chaos and conflict. Since then, violence has erupted between government forces and various armed resistance groups, including ethnic insurgent factions. The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reports that over 1 million Myanmar nationals have fled their homes seeking safety—many becoming refugees in neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, India, and Indonesia. Despite fleeing violence and oppression, these refugees often find themselves unwelcome in host nations, facing deportations and societal discrimination.
