Another frontier is stem cell research, which aims to stimulate the body's own regenerative capabilities. Professor George Beer Mehta’s team is working on using stem cells to reverse corneal blindness—caused by age or injury—by cultivating cells in the lab from donor tissue. Unlike traditional transplants that depend on a limited supply of donor corneas, this approach could treat dozens of patients from a single donor tissue.
