The Myanmar coup, which occurred almost two years ago, marked a turning point in the region. The military's overthrow of a democratically elected government sparked widespread violence and civil unrest. ASEAN initially responded with optimism, rallying behind the five-point consensus aimed at ending violence, facilitating dialogue, and restoring stability.
However, despite these early efforts, tangible progress has been elusive. Many observers note that the situation in Myanmar has not improved—in fact, it has regressed. The military regime continues to commit atrocities, defying ASEAN agreements and commitments.
