These smugglers often use boats to bypass authorities, and if caught, they tend to abandon their cargo—often animals, in poor conditions—leaving behind a trail of suffering.
One of her efforts was to contact and interview a suspect offering cats under the guise of "adoption," a common ruse for unlicensed pet sales. The meeting took place in a remote village area near mainland China, a location chosen for its proximity to border regions and the influence of organized clans, some with suspected triad links.
