Addressing this disparity, 22-year-old Katrina Lee, founder of Saver, proposes a technological solution: an online marketplace helping merchants sell surplus or near-expiry food at discounted prices directly to NGOs and low-income families. Since launch in 2019, Saver has assisted over 1,000 households by reducing food waste and improving access to affordable nutrition.
