Initially, it was suspected to be caused by a common virus – one that periodically causes outbreaks globally. However, experts remained vigilant, aware that this could be a novel and potentially serious pathogen. The uncertainty prompted a race for more information, especially as social media reported severe pneumonia of unknown cause, stirring fears of a mysterious illness.
