Land Subsidence: A Hidden Threat
Beyond surface flooding, land subsidence—or gradual sinking of the land—is a pressing issue. Through research and monitoring by environmental agencies, it has been found that Ho Chi Minh City experiences an average sinking rate of about 1 to 2 centimeters annually over the past decade. This rate is attributable to a combination of natural geological factors and human activities such as groundwater extraction.
