Suddenly, the tranquility was shattered. On the night of December 22, 2018, Anak Krakatoa erupted violently, triggering a massive landslide that led to a catastrophic tsunami. The eruption caused a large section of the volcanic island to collapse, displacing vast amounts of water and generating powerful waves that radiated outward toward the coastlines of Sumatra and Java. These waves, traveling at high speed, crashed into densely populated areas, causing widespread destruction.
