In the midst of the festival, no one anticipated the impending disaster. The band playing on the stage was still performing when the first signs of chaos appeared. Willy recounted hearing the crash of the stage collapsing and hearing screams — an earthquake of sorts, signaling the onset of the tsunami. The waves hit the beach with terrifying force, described by Willy as snakes of water that immediately wrapped around him and his family, pulling him into a deep, swirling torrent.
