The change in season length also alters the nature of storytelling itself. Longer seasons enabled writers to develop complex plots and characters, sometimes taking years to unfold epic story arcs, such as the “Red John” storyline in The Mentalist. In contrast, modern shows are stripped down to bite-sized, often self-contained stories, which may not allow for the same emotional depth or character evolution.
