Part 4/10:
Who Is at Risk?
Several factors predispose individuals to OSA:
Obesity: Excess fat deposits in the neck narrow the airway.
Gender: Men are more susceptible, possibly due to anatomical differences.
Aging: Muscle tone decreases over time, increasing airway collapse risk.
Anatomical features: Smaller jaws, recessed chins, or a flatter facial profile—more common among Chinese populations—can contribute to airway narrowing.
Treatment Options: From Lifestyle Changes to Advanced Interventions
For mild cases, weight loss and sleeping on one's side can reduce symptoms. However, moderate to severe OSA often necessitates medical devices or surgical interventions.
