Part 4/13:
Yonaguni Island: The Westernmost Outpost
Among the most strategically significant islands is Yonaguni, situated at Japan’s southwestern frontier, less than 110 kilometers from Taiwan. Despite its small size, capable of being circumnavigated in an hour, Yonaguni now hosts advanced military facilities. Since 2016, the island has transformed from a tranquil rural area into a key military outpost with a camp equipped for ground forces, Coastal observation units, electronic warfare operations, and potentially surface-to-air missile systems.
