The fungi, once introduced into the tree’s vascular system, multiply and choke the water channels, causing leaves to yellow and die within days to weeks. The beetles, in turn, lay their eggs in these tunnels, and their larvae mature to continue the cycle. When multiple trees in close proximity are affected, it creates outbreaks that are difficult to contain without intervention.
