Promoting Sago: An Ancient yet Underutilized Resource
Parallel to sorghum efforts, Indonesia is also focusing on sago (or sego), a carbohydrate staple derived from the sago palm tree, which is abundant in the country. Suharjo, a farmer from Moranti Islands, has been cultivating sago for decades and owns a 40-hectare plantation. Despite Indonesia possessing the largest land area suitable for sago cultivation, only 5% of this potential is exploited.
