Indonesian supporters are notorious for provocative chants, banners, and sometimes racist or demeaning language during matches. Yet, amidst this toxic environment, some fan groups are actively working to change perceptions and promote positive culture. Ultras like the South Stand Brigade of Persib Bandung and other supporter groups have started initiatives to foster inclusivity, reduce violence, and curb hooligan behavior.
Many fans and community leaders understand that violent confrontations and reckless behavior are not intrinsic to their passionate support but are symptoms of deeper societal issues. Interestingly, fans from rival groups like Persebaya and Arema united after the Kanjuruhan tragedy to pay respect to the victims—a hopeful sign that dialogue and reconciliation are possible.
