Despite past volatility, the current protests show a conscious effort by the Red Shirts to avoid violence. They are deliberately staging demonstrations approximately an hour’s drive from central Bangkok, in the countryside or outskirts, to minimize clashes with pro-government supporters like the PDRC (People's Democratic Reform Committee). During recent protests, the Red Shirts focused on maintaining a peaceful stance, going as far as to plaster roads leading to their rally sites with photos of their opponents—the Yellow Shirts—and encouraging supporters to walk over these images, even step on faces, in symbolic acts that reinforce their animosity toward their rivals.
