Part 10/17:
Cyber Warfare: North Korea’s Digital Offensive
In recent decades, North Korea has pioneered a sophisticated cyber warfare capability, which it uses for espionage, financial theft, and political coercion. Its cyber units, notably the Reconnaissance General Bureau’s cyber division, operate with military-grade precision, attacking financial institutions, stealing cryptocurrency, and launching devastating malware campaigns.
One notorious example is the 2014 Sony Pictures hack, where North Korea retaliated after the film The Interview depicted the assassination of Kim Jong-un. This attack crippled Sony’s networks and led to public data leaks, exemplifying how cyber operations have become a prime tool for blackmail and influence.
