Complicating the matter are allegations that some artists or third parties may participate in artificial streaming practices—commonly called "fake plays." Such activities are purportedly used to inflate streaming numbers, which many platforms consider abuse.
In a recent legal claim, the distributor argued that because the artist was involved in “door” and streaming abuse—essentially, generating fake streams—the artist had forfeited their earnings. This stance, however, was criticized sharply for lacking proper legal grounding, such as citation of case law or established precedents, and was viewed as an arbitrary justification for withholding funds.
