The optimal approach is to harness the positive effects of stress while preventing it from becoming destructive. This involves a delicate balancing act—allowing in enough stress to motivate and prepare ourselves but quickly cutting it loose when it begins to impair our well-being.
The key is to identify which aspects of stress are beneficial and to actively manage or eliminate those that cause burnout or breakdown. This might mean taking short breaks, practicing mindfulness, or setting boundaries with people or demands that excessively drain us.
