Medical and Safety Considerations: Ibogaine requires expert medical supervision due to its serious cardiac risks. It can slow the heart rate dangerously or even cause cardiac arrest if misadministered.
Volitional Control: Unlike classical psychedelics, ibogaine is not dissociative. Individuals remain fully oriented—cognitively intact and in control of their thoughts and responses. They can choose to engage further or disengage by simply opening their eyes.
Physical Toll: The experience often involves physical exhaustion or vomiting, but mental clarity remains. The person remains aware of their surroundings and retains their autonomy throughout.
