Part 4/13:
Before the iconic monorail, Disneyland experimented with the Viewliner, a miniature train system introduced in 1957. Inspired by the General Motors Aerotrain of 1955, Bob Gurr, one of Disney’s famed Imagineers, designed a scaled-down, futuristic-looking train. Running on 30-inch narrow gauge tracks, the Viewliner featured two trains: one orange, themed after planets, and another blue, decorated with Disney characters. It was heralded as “the fastest miniature train in the world!”, reaching a speed of 30 mph—scaled down to give the illusion of speeds up to 120 mph.
